Suryakumar Yadav Set To Miss First 2 IPL Matches: Suryakumar Yadav will reportedly miss out on the first couple of matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.
Yadav, who until last year has captained India in T20Is, has been out of action since December 2023. He sustained an ankle injury during a T20 against South Africa.
He even went under the knife for surgery in Munich, Germany in January 2024. While it was assumed the procedure was done on his injured ankle, Yadav recently took to social media to clarify that he was operated upon for Sports Hernia. He recently posted this message on his Instagram story, giving an update on his injury and recovery –
“Hello everyone, good morning. Hope you all are doing well. Just wanted to clear something up. Bit of a confusion, I guess. For those who aren’t aware, I was operated on for SPORTS HERNIA a few weeks back not for my ankle. Road to recovery is going really well. Thank you, everyone, for all the love and support, see you all soon.”
Suryakumar Yadav Set To Miss First 2 IPL Matches
Ever since his surgery, the 33-year-old has been rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). While he is on the road to recovery, there are no guarantees that he will represent the Mumbai Indians in the side’s first two matches in IPL 2024.

In fact, a BCCI source has stated that the NCA medical team might not give Surya clearance to play in the first two matches.
“Suryakumar Yadav’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games,” an anonymous BCCI source told PTI.
Suryakumar Yadav has been a critical piece of the Mumbai Indians machine and its success in recent years. In 2023, he was the side’s best batter, scoring 605 runs at an average of 43.21 and a mind-boggling strike rate of 181.14.
As for the Mumbai Indians, they will start off their IPL 2024 season against last year’s runner-up Gujarat Titans on March 24 in Ahmedabad. Their second match will be against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27 in Hyderabad.
